TROY, Mich. (July 25, 2017) - Meritor, Inc. (NYSE: MTOR) received the first-ever Gold Award from Ashok Leyland for on-time delivery performance, including support for sudden ramp-up in construction dump truck demand. Meritor’s Mysore, India site supplies almost 65 percent of the axles and half of the brake systems for Ashok Leyland, a major manufacturer of commercial vehicles for India and export markets.
“Meritor meets our requirements due to its incredible sense of timing and planning in a very volatile commercial vehicle market,” said Sivanesan R, senior vice president, Quality, Sourcing & Supply Chain for Ashok Leyland. “By astutely managing its in-house manufacturing and assembly operations, Meritor helped us break records for dump truck production – all while supplying components for other models and ensuring vehicle delivery was not delayed.”
NP Thimmaiah, regional vice president, India, for Meritor, said the company has taken several steps to adjust production to unpredictable demand based on changing market need. It has reduced logistical lead times, vendor-managed inventory at the Mysore plant and created a single window of responsibility on demand management for its business with Ashok Leyland.
“We take our commitment to customer delivery and quality very seriously, and we’re happy to see that Ashok Leyland is recognizing our efforts and performance,” Thimmaiah said. “We will remain focused on delivering products that make a positive impact on Ashok Leyland and its customers.”
